Install or Upgrade Luna Insight

To install Luna Insight® Java Client software on your PC or Mac:

  1. Go to:

    Luna Imaging

  2. At the upper right, click:

    Support

  3. From the menu, click:

    Software Downloads

  4. Next to Insight v6.3(X) [version nos. change frequently], select:

    Download Now

NOTE: Updates to v6 are frequent. You can safely ignore any differences in the numbers that appear after the decimal point, or in the parentheses.

NOTE FOR MAC USERS: There's a known java conflict with installing the current Insight version on OS X 10.5.X or higher. For Mac users running newer versions of OS X, here is a link to a previous Insight version (v.6.2) which should work: Install v6.2 for MAC OS X 10.5.x or higher [zip].

  5. From the Insight v6.3 + LUNA box select:

    Download

  6. Under Insight (with no other wording), select your operating system

  7. If you have a choice to download / save file or open, choose:

    download / save file

  8. An Install Insight icon appears on the desk top. Double click on the icon

  9. If a Security Warning appears, click

    Run

  10. When prompted, choose:

    Advanced

  11. Watch for this message:

Specify the URL / address for your organization's Insight User Manager

  12. Change the User Manager Address to:

    luna.folger.edu

  13. When prompted, select No, you are not upgrading (even if you are)

  14. In Windows, a shortcut should install in a Luna Imaging folder in the All Programs menu in your Start menu. Otherwise you can go to C:\Program Files\LunaImaging\Insight 6.3 and find the application file Insight 6.3.

  15. On a Mac, Luna Imaging is in the applications folder. The application file is Insight 6.3

  16. Log in using:

    username guest
    password guest

Got an older version of the Folger Luna Insight Java Client?

Or did you install prior to February 2011?

Here are options for upgrading:

  1. Reinstall by following the instructions above. This may be the most straightforward approach.

  2. Or you can edit your configuration file to point to our new server. Here's how.
  • In Windows:
    • go to C:\Program Files\LunaImaging\Insight 6.3. Note that older installs will be in folders named for lower version numbers.
    • using a text editor (e.g., notepad.exe), open Insight.dat.
    • locate the line that reads: UserServerAddress1 = titania.folger.edu
    • modify the line to read: UserServerAddress1 = luna.folger.edu
    • save the file
    • restart Luna Insight!
  • On a Mac:
    • go to your applications folder, open the LunaImaging folder, and then open the Insight 6.3 folder. Note that older installs will be in folders named for lower version numbers.
    • using a text editor (e.g., TextEdit), open Insight.dat.
    • locate the line that reads: UserServerAddress1 = titania.folger.edu
    • modify the line to read: UserServerAddress1 = luna.folger.edu
    • save the file
    • restart Luna Insight!
