There is wide variation in English-language descriptive terminology for book structure, bindings and tooling. Regularizing term usage in this database is an ongoing project.
The following vocabulary is not a comprehensive list, but is intended as a starting point for basic keyword searches against the Folger Bindings Image Collection.
Note that in most cases adding an asterisk (*) at the end of a keyword search will help retrieve plurals or other variations in word endings.
