Folger Shakespeare Library holds copyright to the images it produces of the library’s collection. Except for commercial use, images may be copied, distributed, transmitted, and adapted. Images are licensed under a Creative Commons License. Reproduction of any images from the Folger digital image collections constitutes agreement to the terms of that license. We request that you use the attribution: "By permission of the Folger Shakespeare Library."
We encourage links to images in the Folger Shakespeare Library digital image collection. No permission is required to quote excerpts from items in the collection within the bounds of "fair use."
Fees are charged and written permission is required for commercial publication of images. Users are not permitted to download text and images to mount on their own servers for commercial use, or for use by a set of subscribers without written permission. For commercial use or publication, contact photo@folger.edu. All publication fees are waived for university presses.
How to Obtain Permission to Publish
To request permission to publish, please use the application for permission to publish (pdf). Please fill it out completely and fax or mail it to the Photography Department.
