Performance-Based Teaching

Folger Education is a strong advocate for performance-based teaching, a powerful teaching approach that's represented throughout our programs, resources, and publications. We've found that performance-based teaching can be effective with all kinds of students at every grade level. The crucial element of performance often makes a connection that traditional teaching methods may not.

But what do we mean by performance-based teaching?

Here's our definition:

Performance-based teaching is...

an interactive approach to the study of literature, particularly Shakespeare's plays and poems, in which students participate in a close reading of text through intellectual, physical, and vocal engagement.

To see how we've applied that concept, explore the resources and programs at left. Then, why not give some of our ideas a try in your own classroom?

After all, the play's the thing!
