Folger Education specializes in programs which get students on their feet with Shakespeare's words at any age!
School Visit Workshops are open to anyone visiting the DC area. Whether you are from Pennsylvania, California, Australia, or around the corner, we will do our best to give you a world-class visit with the perfect introduction to Shakespeare!
Bill's Buddies, our educational outreach troupe, performs for grades 3-12 and can be seen in public performances in Folger Theatre, or can be booked to perform at local schools.
Student Matinees are offered for productions of Folger Theatre. Study Guides are made available for audience members ahead of time, with discussion points, background, and activities for the classroom.
Elementary Students
Shakespeare Steps Out is a local outreach program for grades 3-6. A Folger Teaching Artist visits a classroom throughout the school year, preparing them to perform in the Children's Festival in May.
Secondary Students
Shakespeare for a New Generation is a new outreach program for grades 7-12. Similar to SSO, a teaching artist visits the school and prepares students to perform in the Secondary Festival in March. In addition, students are invited to attend a Student Matinee of a play in Folger Theatre, and discuss this play as a class.
The Folger gives scholarly opportunities to local high school students wishing to study Poetry and Shakespeare in more depth (and for class credit!) through Shakespeare's Sisters and the High School Fellowship Program.
