Hamlet: Ambiguity and Impulsiveness

When asked which of Shakespeare's plays she'd most like to teach, Jill Burdick-Zupancic decided on Hamlet. The play leaves a lot of room for discussion with students, and the characters often behave in relatable ways.

“In a time of very impulsive action for students…I think Hamlet offers an opportunity to look at things that happen if you act in the complete opposite of that, which is Hamlet’s inaction.”

The play has “enough language and plot ambiguity that there are so many different readings of it. That makes it interesting to secondary students.”
