The Challenge to Think Critically

High School teacher Christina Alvarez is looking forward to teaching The Merchant of Venice. She feels her students will relate to the various relationships between characters, but more than that, she's certain that the play will challenge them to think critically about ambiguous situations.

Once past their similarities with the charactesr, the play gives students the chance to “really sink their teeth into something they don’t know a whole lot about!”

As Christina says, there are always "what if"s in this play. Ask your students to consider where these questions might pop up in this play, and challenge them to consider how different actions or reactions might change the play.
