ASSISTANT TECHNICAL DIRECTOR, FOLGER THEATRE–
Home to the world’s largest Shakespeare collection, Folger Shakespeare Library is a world-class center for scholarship, learning, culture, and the arts. Folger Theatre is a not-for-profit AEA company that produces a full season of the plays by Shakespeare and other playwrights, and is seeking a part time Assistant Technical Director. ATD will assist the Production Manager/ Technical Director in the operation of the Theatre space. Duties to include: general upkeep; scenery load in and load out; light hang; notes during tech; as well as being the onsite technician for Folger Consort, Poetry and PEN/Faulkner events. Hours average out to around 20 a week with frequent evening and weekend work. Folger Theatre’s 2009/10 season includes: Orestes, A Tragic Romp directed by Aaron Posner January 27 – March 7, 2010; Hamlet directed by Joe Haj April 12 – June 6th, 2010.
A successful candidate will be self-starting, detail-oriented, and have building and stagecraft experience, as well as experience operating a sound system. Ability to improvise, problem solve, and work well with others a must. This position reports to the Production Manager and is an exciting opportunity for a team player to invest in a dynamic company.
