Grant-in-Aid Request
Unless external funding is specified in a program description as extending eligibility, grants-in-aid are funded by consortium dues and are only available to consortium affiliates. They are intended to make a substantial contribution to travel and lodging. However, train and air fares are reimbursed at the lowest available rate and are not guaranteed to cover the full amount of expenses incurred.

Faculty Released-Time
Awards for released time from teaching may be requested by faculty members at local consortium schools. These requests should accompany the application for admission.

Supporting Materials
The Institute does NOT forward application materials to recommenders. It is the responsibility of the applicant to contact letter-writers directly.
Scholars who are not already registered readers at the Folger Library must submit TWO letters of support, one of which must be substantive. Those who are already registered readers at the Folger Library must submit
one
substantive letter in support of their application to a program. Referees should receive a complete copy of your application for reference.

Submitting the Application
Applicants from Folger consortium institutions must secure the signature of their faculty representatives. When an affiliated applicant chooses "Submit Application," a notice will be sent to the faculty representative that the application is ready for review. The representative will then contact The Folger Institute directly.
Applicants from consortium institutions may include a comment to their campus representative.
