On marriage. Being a parody on Hamlet’s soliloquy. Penrith, New South Wales: J. Allison, [1815.]
Beginning “to wed, or not to wed”, our soliloquy was printed in Penrith, England. Written from the male perspective, the anonymous author muses on the ups and downs of courtship and marriage. By the end, the author decides “I’ll e’en, like others, run the risk, and thus resolve to wed.” This is balanced by a manuscript parody written just eight years later by a woman and concludes “I’ll venture marriage let what will befall.” Our manuscript parody was acquired by Henry and Emily Folger before the Library formerly opened.
