A baby boy for Henry VIII

Hollar, Wenceslaus. Edwardus VI Angliae Rex etc, Henrici VIII filius, natus Ao. 1537. Etching, 1650
Adopt for: $1,850

Wenceslaus Hollar, 1607–1677, after Hans Holbein. Edward Prince of Wales. Antwerp, 1650
The future Edward VI is richly dressed, regally posed, and holding a rattle. Wenceslaus Hollar attempted to record all the art in the Earl of Arundel’s collection, including Hans Holbein’s painted portrait of Prince Edward from 1538. Holbein’s painting now hangs in the National Gallery of Art, just down the hill from the Folger; it was a present from Holbein to Henry VIII, and is described in the New Year’s gift roll for 1539 now in the Folger’s manuscript collection.
