Ceremony of the Mass

Johann Faber. Was die Euangelisch Mess sey... Dilingen, 1555

Adopt for: $975

Johann Faber, 1504–1558. Was die Evangelisch Mess sey. Dilingen [Germany]: Sebaldum Mayer, 1555.

Johann Faber was a Dominican preacher. Faced with constant resistance as Lutheranism moved through Germany, Faber here defends the sacraments and the ceremony of the Mass. This copy of his book was owned by Georg Schedler, Prior of the Benedictine monastery at Göttweig, in 1590. Schedler annotated the German text with Latin for each section of the Mass. Here he writes “Agnus Paschalis” next to “Osterlamb” for the feast of Easter. The book is an important addition to our large collection focused on the Reformation in Germany.
