Adopt for: $7,500

Josef Šíma, 1891–1971. Illustrations to Hamlet, 1959.

Avant-garde Czech artist Josef Šíma spent most of his life in Paris, but continued to contribute designs and illustrations for Czech publications. He created these six charcoal illustrations for a 1959 edition of Zdenek Urbánek’s translation of Shakespeare’s Hamlet. They were used again in 1981 for a new translation by Erik A. Saudek.
