Designer's Hamlet

Edward Gordon Craig. Mask or Hamlet Mask or Round Eye. Print, 1909

Adopt for: $1,975

Edward Gordon Craig, 1872–1966. Hamlet Mask. Woodcut, 1909.

E. Gordon Craig designed and cut this black figure in Florence, in 1909. Unusually, he signed and dated it. Best-known to Shakespeareans as the artist behind Count Kessler’s Cranach Press editions of Hamlet (German in 1928; English in 1930), Craig was also an avant-garde theater designer and theorist, and the son of actress Ellen Terry.
