Exploring the idealism and aftermath of utopian aspirations
Robert Stone is the author of seven novels including Dog Soldiers, winner of the National Book Award; A Flag for Sunrise, finalist for the PEN/Faulkner Award; Children of Light; and Bear and His Daughter, which was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize. His latest story collection, Fun with Problems, is filled with captivating prose illuminating all aspects of the human condition.
Lauren Groff’s most recent novel, Arcadia, describes the journeys of children from a hippie community discovering life beyond their youthful utopias. The New York Times noted, “the raw beauty of Ms. Groff’s prose is one of the best things about Arcadia.” Groff’s first novel, the bestselling The Monsters of Templeton, was a New York Times Editors’ Choice selection, and her short stories have appeared in numerous journals and anthologies, including The New Yorker, The Atlantic Monthly, Best American Short Stories 2010, and Pushcart Prize XXXII.

Shakespeare in Kabul chronicles a remarkable production of Love’s Labor’s Lost that was staged in the Dari language in Afghanistan in 2005 and 2006. It provides a glimpse into the rich cultural life of Afghanistan as it describes the challenges faced by the actors on and off stage, the response they stirred, and the tragic consequences that followed for one of them.
