In 14th-century Florence, lay religious fraternities began incorporating vernacular ceremonial songs known as laude into their worship. This popular form entered the homes of the city’s courtiers, learned clerics, and middle-class urbanites. Hear these stirring laude performed along with cheerful dances and polyphonic works in joyous celebration of the season. With vocal ensemble Trio Eos, multi-instrumentalist Christa Patton, and period strings and winds.
