Australian-born Geraldine Brooks, author and journalist, has most recently published Caleb’s Crossing, a novel based on the true story of the first Native American to graduate from Harvard College in 1665 told in the voice of his beautiful young Puritan friend.
Julie Otsuka’s recent novel, The Buddha in the Attic, the journey of a group of young women brought to San Francisco from Japan as picture-brides, is the winner of the 2012 PEN/Faulkner Award for Fiction.
Dolen Perkins-Valdez’ debut novel, and New York Times bestseller Wench, is the fascinating story of the friendship of four 19th-century Southern American women at a resort where white slaveholders bring their enslaved mistresses.
