Tour our historic Reading Rooms. View paintings from our Shakespeare collection, Nicola d'Ascenzo's stained-glass window inspired by Jacques's "Seven Ages of Man" speech from As You Like It,  a bust of Shakespeare based on his memorial in Holy Trinity Church in Stratford, and sixteenth and seventeenth-century Flemish tapestries.

Discover how staging Shakespeare’s plays has changed over the past 400 years.  More than 100 items—scripts and promptbooks, designs for sets, lights, and costumes, props, models, production photographs, playbills, letters, and reviews— highlight broad shifts over the centuries in the performances of Othello, Richard III, Romeo and Juliet, and A Midsummer Night’s Dream and the sometimes surprising changes made to the plays.

Shakespeare for my Father: A Staged Reading by Kathleen Chalfant

Lynn Redgrave wrote Shakespeare for my Father after receiving an invitation in 1991 from the Folger to present an evening of Shakespeare and family anecdotes. She went on to develop and tour the play internationally; it was nominated for Tony and Drama Desk Awards. It and other material related to her remarkable career are part of a new exhibition "Here is a Play Fitted", on view after the November 11 reading and through January 12.

The Anthony Hecht Poetry Prize: Shelley Puhak

Co-sponsored with The Waywiser Press

The Anthony Hecht Poetry Prize, created in honor of the Pulitzer Prize-winning poet, is awarded annually by The Waywiser Press for a collection by a poet who has published no more than one book. It includes publication with a $3,000 prize. Shelley Puhak, the 2012 recipient, will read with prize judge Charles Simic.
