Folger Old Reading Room

Tour our historic Reading Rooms. View paintings from our Shakespeare collection, Nicola d'Ascenzo's stained-glass window inspired by Jacques's "Seven Ages of Man" speech from As You Like It,  a bust of Shakespeare based on his memorial in Holy Trinity Church in Stratford, and sixteenth and seventeenth-century Flemish tapestries.

Explore Shakespeare’s influence on visual art, performance, and scholarship through treasures from the Folger collection hand-picked by Folger staff, including a special look at how fans have celebrated Shakespeare from his time to ours. Marking Shakespeare's 450th birthday.

Elizabethan Garden Tour

Folger Elizabethan Garden

Garden tours are offered at 10am and 11am on the first and third Saturday of each month, April through October.
The Elizabethan Garden is open year-round, Monday through Saturday, 10am to 5pm, and before most Folger performances.

Explore our garden, inspired by herbal references in Shakespeare's plays and also incorporating plants popular in his time, including lavender, creeping thyme, and English ivy; a knot garden; and Shakespearean statues by American sculptor Greg Wyatt. Folger docents offer insights into plantings, Elizabethan customs, and more.

RSC Live from Stratford–upon–Avon: Henry IV, Part I  CLOSED

Folger Elizabethan Theatre

The Folger hosts a special preview screening of a live cinema broadcast from the stage of the RSC, captured from Shakespeare's hometown of Stratford-upon-Avon. 
Directed by RSC Artistic Director Gregory Doran and starring Antony Sher as Falstaff, Jasper Britton as Henry IV, and Alex Hassell as Prince Hal.
