High School Fellowship Program
Fall 2008

Note: The application deadline for the 2008 High School Fellowship Program has now passed.

This twelve-week interdisciplinary program for high school seniors from diverse educational backgrounds is led by noted scholars and theater practitioners. The program focuses on the process by which a Shakespearean text moves from page to stage. Numerous short courses, inspired by performances at the Folger Theatre, are also offered throughout the year.

Shakespeare's Sisters:

Five Centuries of Poetry by Women

In this nine-week seminar, students in grades 10–12 read and discuss the works of British and American women poets from the sixteenth century to the present.

Participants also write some poetry of their own; the course culminates with a poetry slam.

To learn more about the program or to read an article by previous Shakespeare's Sister participant Hannah Lepow, consult the links at right.

Here is what past participants have said about this seminar:

  • “The seminar went beyond my expectations.”
  • “I learned volumes about myself as a writer.”
  • “Such a diverse group with different perspectives has been wonderful.”
