This course, Shakespeare for non-majors, offers a survey of many of Shakespeare's major works. The course meets a graduation requirement for a literature/arts topic in several colleges at the University of Colorado at Boulder. In order to move Shakespeare more fully into the electronic age, I have developed a Virtual Shakespeare course. A preliminary version was given in Spring 1999.
A fuller version, meeting on-line in real time, will be offered fall 2000, when I return from a sabbatical leave. Students will continue to send their papers and exams and other assignments by email. When the course is next offered, a chat room component will be fully developed. We also anticipate significant advances, at the technical level, in use of streaming video, so that video clips will be fully integrated into the real time class discussion of Shakespeare. This course can be seen at http://www.colorado.edu/English/rlw and click on English 3000.
