Detailed Description
Fables with animals or 'beasts' are among the most common stories and have been used for many centuries. During the 16th and 17th centuries in Europe, these stories became very popular. Shakespeare referred to animals in some of his plays: "A harmless necessary cat" (Merchant of Venice), "Come not between the dragon and his wrath" (King Lear). The Folger Shakespeare Library collection contains many of these early "books of beasts" like The History of Four-footed Beasts by Edward Topsell. 1607.Choose your favorites!
