Detailed Description

Irvin Leigh Matus writes with wit and flair as he dismantles the arguments of those who claim that someone other than William Shakespeare wrote his plays. He examines the record of Shakespeare's life, the relation of his writing and knowledge to that of comparable figures of his day, and the earliest publications of his works. His vast research dismisses the claims that Edward de Vere, 17th Earl of Oxford (1550-1604), wrote the plays.

Irvin Leigh Matus was an independent scholar, author, and authority on Shakespeare.  In 1989 he was asked by the Shakespeare Authorship Roundtable to investigate the scholarship of the Shakespeare authorship controversy. Up until this particular research interest emerged, his interest in Shakespeare was almost entirely focused on the plays.

Other publications by Matus include Shakespeare: The Living Record, 1991. St. Martin's Press, ISBN 978-0-312-04704-7, numerous articles in scholarly publications.

Paper, 1999.  ISBN: 0-8264-0928-8, SBN-13: 978-0-8264-0928-7. 336 pages, B&W images. Continuum International Publishing Group.
