Below are submission instructions for those preparing to submit articles, book reviews, and readers’ reports to Shakespeare Quarterly. We look forward to considering your work.
Submitting an article for review
When preparing your work for submission to Shakespeare Quarterly, please adhere to the following guidelines. Articles that do not comply will be returned to the author for correction.
Your article must:
- Be submitted as a double-spaced Microsoft Word document
- Feature endnotes with Arabic numerals
- Adhere to the SQ Style Guide.
Your article must not:
- Be longer than 10,000 words including citations and endnotes
- Indicate the identity of the submitting author in any way. Please remove every occurrence of your name from the article (including in the header) and eliminate your acknowledgements section. If your article is accepted for publication, you will have the opportunity to provide acknowledgments.
Logging into Editorial Manager
Shakespeare Quarterly considers only articles that are submitted through Editorial Manager, our online manuscript submission system.
If you have ever submitted any work to Shakespeare Quarterly or have provided us with a reader’s report in the past, you have a preexisting Editorial Manager account. Please visit Editorial Manager to log into your existing account. Please do not create additional accounts.
To set up a new account, please visit Editorial Manager and click on the “Register Now” link. You will be asked to provide your current mailing address, email address, and institutional affiliation if applicable. If you are not affiliated with an institution, enter “N/A” into that field.
Submitting via Editorial Manager
After logging into Editorial Manager as an author, click on “Submit New Manuscript” in the main menu. Editorial Manager will then require you to provide a title and a 250-word abstract; it will then prompt you to upload your document (.doc, .docx), create a PDF of your materials, and require you to approve that PDF. If you do not approve the PDF at this stage, Editorial Manager will not process your article as a submission.
Once we process your submission, you will receive a manuscript number in an automated confirmation email.
