This bust of Shakespeare is a replica of the memorial bust at Holy Trinity Church, Stratford-upon-Avon, where Shakespeare is buried. Because it was commissioned and approved by his family, the Stratford memorial bust is considered one of only two authentic likenesses of Shakespeare. (The other is the engraving by Martin Droeshout for the First Folio, approved by Shakespeare’s former colleagues.)
Below this bust is the same inscription that appears under the Stratford bust. The lines are partly in Latin and partly in English. You can learn more about them on the Inscriptions page in the list at left.
