The Elizabethan Muse
William Shakespeare, William Byrd, and John Dowland
January 5 -6, 2007
Peformed in the English Gothic nave of the Washington National Cathedral, this concert celebrates masterpieces by two of Shakespeare's greatest musical contemporaries. Soaring to match the vaulted reaches of the cathedral, William Byrd's magnificent motests for voices are balanced by the intimate intensity of John Dowland's "Passionate Pavans" for string band and lute.
