The Folger Shakespeare Library, in compliance with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA, effective April 21, 2000), provides notice to parents of children under 13 that:
- The Folger Shakespeare Library may collect personal information from children under 13 years of age in order to provide them with access to services and content on the Folger network;
- The Folger may not require children under 13 to disclose more information than is reasonably necessary to receive homework help or to participate in a program or activity;
- The Folger has created a mechanism by which parents or guardians can, upon verification, review their child’s personal information, ask to have that information deleted, and refuse to allow any further collection or use of their child’s personal information.
The following is provided for your information
The Folger Shakespeare Library welcomes children to its website and encourages participation with parental consent and supervision. In compliance with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (effective April 21, 2000), the Folger would like to provide the following information.
- This website is owned and operated by the Folger Shakespeare Library, 201East Capitol Street, SE, Washington, DC 20003-1094. We can be reached by e-mail at webmaster@folger.edu and by telephone at (202) 675–0342.
- Under no circumstances will a child be required to disclose more information than is reasonably necessary to answer an inquiry or participate in a program. Information collected directly from a child may include name, e-mail address, postal address, affiliation (e.g., school name, grade, teacher's name). Information will be collected directly from the child.
- Personal information will be used only to answer reference questions (e.g., homework help) or to enable a child to participate in a Folger-sponsored educational program.
- A parent may review their child’s personal information, have it deleted from the site, and/or refuse to allow further collection or use of the child’s information. To review, delete, and/or refuse further collection of information, parents can e-mail us at webmaster@folger.edu.
- Under no circumstances will personal information collected from children be disclosed to third parties.
