Folger Undergraduate Program

The Folger Undergraduate Program offers the rare opportunity for undergraduates to have full access to the Library's collections as part of an intensive research seminar on books and early modern culture.

Each seminar meets weekly at the Library under the tutelage of Dr Sarah Werner. Students learn basic archival research skills, are introduced to the field of book history, and pursue advanced independent research on early modern topics. Folger staff and guest faculty complement the syllabus readings in order to provide a wide-ranging introduction to the methods and topics of current research in early modern studies.

The seminars are open by application to juniors and seniors from The George Washington University and Georgetown University, and from other Folger Institute Consortium schools. Students admitted to the course receive Reader's Cards good for twelve months, enabling them to draw on the Library's rare and modern collections even after the seminar concludes.
