Peterson Cartoon

Roy Eric Peterson. Some experts think even earlier versions of Shakespeare’s portrait exist. Print, 12 March 2009

Peterson’s original art for an editorial cartoon was inspired by the extraordinary publicity surrounding the Cobbe Portrait (considered a possible portrait of Shakespeare) last March. His deliberately anachronistic caricature pokes fun at the striking attractiveness of the Cobbe Portrait sitter when compared with accepted authentic likenesses of Shakespeare.
