Dear Friend,
Serving as the Director of the Folger Shakespeare Library has been an enormous privilege for the past eight years. I am writing today to inform you of my planned retirement on July 1, 2011.
When I leave this post, it will be with a heart full of gratitude for the Folger’s remarkable staff, its engaged and distinguished Board of Governors, and its generous donors. Every part of the job has been deeply satisfying—from strengthening the collections and exhibitions, nurturing scholarship of the highest order, presenting great performances, to growing the Folger’s educational outreach by leaps and bounds. We are proud of our cultural importance to the nation’s capital and to students, teachers, and scholars all around the world.
I have treasured every moment of my eight years at this great library and will treasure the next twelve months as well, working with the staff and friends like you to fulfill the many facets of our mission as a leading educational, research, and cultural institution.
With best wishes,
Gail Kern Paster
Director
