This hand-colored miniature map of Suffolk serves as the six of hearts in the deck that has come to be known as “Morden’s playing cards.” Each map in the set shows the major towns, rivers, and roads, with the dimensions of the county, and the latitude of its “Cheife Citty or Towne” and that city or town’s distance from London in two reckonings. The first figure gives the traditional distance reckoned in Old English miles, the second gives the surveyed distance, in the official eight-furlong mile. This card is from the second state of the deck, with names of neighboring counties added.
