Robert Pinsky, who served an unprecedented three terms as United States Poet Laureate, shared his poetry at the Folger on October 4, 2011.
In his introductory remarks, Folger Director Michael Witmore noted:
"What I appreciate most about Robert Pinsky’s poetry and other writing is the big bets that he places on poetry and language. Poetry provides us with a means of navigation, a sense of touch in what is often a darkened room. The world and its history are often near-nearby in his poems. There’s nothing to leave behind there, only the addition of things to experience and understand."
Pinsky is the poetry editor of Slate. His books of poetry include Selected Poems, Gulf Music, Jersey Music, and The History of My Heart.
