Shakespeare's plays are more than plots. This session is designed for participating teachers and administrators to take a closer look at specific literary devices that get lost when we use modern translations of Shakespeare's plays in our classrooms. Alliteration, assonance, metaphor, simile, inverted syntax, and imagery fall away when Shakespeare is removed from the reading process. As a result, the Common Core's call for complex text is ignored and we rob our students of words that belong to everyone.
