Teaching Shakespeare 2014 participants will be housed in private, suite-style rooms in a brand new dormitory (first used in 2013-2014 school year) on the American University campus. Housing cost to be determined.
A special Teaching Shakespeare school bus will bring participants from American University to the Folger Library each weekday morning, and bring them back to campus each evening.
All rooms are equipped with:
• Air conditioning with in-room temperature controls
• Wireless internet access
• Access to laundry and communal lounge and kitchenette areas
Linens consisting of bed sheets, a blanket, pillow, pillowcase, and towel are provided. These linens can be changed once a week. All beds are twin – not twin XL. Participants may bring his or her own linens, as some past participants have enjoyed this creature comfort!
Free parking will be available for participants who stay on campus at American University. Other participants who wish to park at AU may do so at a rate of $5.00 per day. Parking around the Folger is tight and many parking spaces have a two hour limit for cars not bearing a neighborhood sticker.
Although you may make other housing arrangements on your own, we have learned over the life of the institute that living together at one location fosters professional collaboration as well as a community of collegiality and productivity among participants. Therefore, we encourage all participants to live at American University.
Teaching Shakespeare 2014 participants will be responsible for buying their own food. There are several reasonably-priced restaurants on campus, as well as near the Folger (located on Capitol Hill). AU offers an optional meal plan (although hours may not coincide with the needs of participants, particularly for breakfast) and there are several other eateries both on and off campus. Grocery and convenience stores are a short distance from the AU campus.
