Cornelius Eady

“I am a brick in a house / that is being built / around your house,” Cornelius Eady writes in “Gratitude,” taking on poetic tradition with generosity and resolve. For the past two decades, 2003’s Hardison Prize winner has been building his own glorious structures, with seven books of tough, brilliantly various poetry, including Brutal Imagination, a finalist for the 2001 National Book Award. In 1996, Eady and Toi Derricotte founded Cave Canem, the workshop for African-American poets.
