William D. Adams

William D. Adams is the tenth chairman of the National Endowment for the Humanities. As a combat infantry advisor at the age of 20, William D. Adams came face to face with a host of crucial questions that writers, artists, and philosophers have been trying to answer for generations. Adams spent his career fostering a love of learning and exploration of our humanity. Along the way he coordinated the Great Works in Western Culture program at Stanford University, and served as the presidents of Bucknell University and Colby College.
