COVID-19 Updates

The safety and health of our community are of utmost importance to us.

In preparation for our multi-year renovation, the Folger Shakespeare Library’s historic building on Capitol Hill is not open to the public. Our events and programs are being held at other locations and with partner institutions that have their own COVID-19 responses.

In consideration of the advice of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and DC Health regarding the containment of COVID-19, and consistent with actions taken by other cultural organizations, the Folger Shakespeare Library is postponing and rescheduling or canceling all public events through June 6, 2020. Changes have also been made to the schedule for the Folger Theatre 2020/21 season.

The Folger Board and management will remain in regular communication with each other and designated authorities to update or extend these plans as needed to protect public health interests.

Folger employees working remotely

For the wellbeing of its staff, the Folger has canceled all business travel and adjusted its leave policies so that employees can telework and take other precautions. Most of the Folger staff are working remotely.

Employees who work remotely have access to email and will be able to respond to messages as usual. Communications by mail (including the processing and receipting of gifts) will be limited and responses will be delayed by a minimum of two weeks.
