Testimonials about the impact of Folger programs

Research

“[Folger Institute programs] offer crucial occasions for excavating critical legacies and reimagining critical frameworks.” – Urvashi Chakravarti, Assistant Professor of English at the University of Toronto

“[Folger Institute programming] helps to level the playing field across North America. For those of us who are writing and researching in the field, but don’t have the same resources as others, it gives us a way to get the resources we need to be a part of the conversation.” – Jamie Gianoutsos, Associate Professor in the Department of History at Mount St. Mary’s University

Performance

Of Davenant’s Macbeth:

“This kind of project is incredibly well suited to a place like the Folger. [The Folger has] a strong theater company, an in-house early music ensemble, the collection, and the scholarly resources, the brainpower around the institution. It’s hard to think where else in the world this could have taken place.” – Richard Schoch, theater historian at Queen’s University, Belfast

Education

“As a McKee Fellow, I got to know Prince Hal and his associates over the course of a few months, culminating in a performance in which I played Falstaff. Far from being stumped by the turns of phrase, I learned to navigate them and apply them to my own life.” – Zoe Landau, McKee Fellow and a student at the Maret School in Washington, DC.

“The Folger Method has changed how I teach not just Shakespeare but everything. It has transformed my classroom, my students, and me.” – High school English teacher, Iowa
