Poetry Writing Workshop with Jan Beatty

Blood Ghosts: Finding Structure in Memoir

Thursday, October 13, 2022, 7:00 pm
Virtual workshop online via Zoom

In this workshop, Jan Beatty will guide participants as they create, revise, and possibly share their own work.

In describing the workshop, Ms. Beatty writes:

“How do you find the structure for your memoir or book of nonfiction? How do you even begin? As you dive into the past, how do you ground yourself in writing while running into the blood ghosts of family memory?

I’ll talk about my memoir, American Bastard, and the strategy of a many-sectioned, leaping, non-chronological structure.

We’ll do some writing about your true stories, and the need to tell them.”

Registration is $75 with a discount for Folger members and subscribers.

Dedicated spaces in the workshop are available for BIPOC participants and for those who would benefit from a discounted registration. Please contact Teri Cross Davis at tcdavis@folger.edu for more information

Jan Beatty will hold this virtual workshop on Thursday, October 13 at 7pm, ahead of her reading as a part of the O.B. Hardison Poetry Series at The Lutheran Church of the Reformation on Friday, October 14.
