From Compagnia de’ Colombari
texts&beheadings/ElizabethR is a new work performed by Compagnia de’ Colombari at Folger Theatre as part of the Washington-wide Women’s Voices Theater Festival.
Drawing in part on Elizabeth I’s letters and other material in the Folger collection, this devised theatre piece uses Elizabeth’s own words to reveal her wit, courage, and extraordinary love of her people. Four actresses portray the resilient queen in this compelling, multilingual drama. Through poems, prayers, and private letters, the woman who swore that she would not make windows into men’s souls reveals her own. Following the play's premiere at the Folger Theatre, it will next be seen at the Brooklyn Academy of Music.
Approximate run time is one hour with no intermission.
