Join us for a special talk with Folger Director Dr. Farah Karim-Cooper about her new book All the World’s Your Stage: Shakespeare for Today. David Kilpatrick, the Folger’s new Director of Learning and Education Programs, will chat with Dr. Karim-Cooper about her first foray into writing for younger readers, before opening up the conversation to audience members.
Seeking to make the world of Shakespeare accessible—and interesting—to young readers, All the World’s Your Stage begins with a biography of Shakespeare that weaves together the facts known about his life with questions for young readers to consider, such as “Do you need a university degree to be a talented writer?”
The book describes what life was like in Tudor London and then dives into the stories of eight of Shakespeare’s most popular plays, with key topics related to each play—a discussion of witches to go with Macbeth and a history of fairies alongside A Midsummer Night’s Dream, for example.
The event will be followed by a book signing just outside the Folger Shop, from 12:30–1pm.
