Kick Off Your Year With:
-
Choral Reading to immerse your students in the language from the jump. Yes, it’s sneaky close reading, but it’s also a way of giving your students a powerful shared experience. You’ll explore a poem by Rita Dove that was commissioned by the Folger.
-
Empowering your students with Two Line Scenes. They’ll connect with a partner to make their own analysis and reading. You’ll see how Two-Line Scenes can get students ready for a year of conversation and analysis.
-
Reflection Rounds as a way of closing class so that students can hear each other’s perspectives in a meaningful and productive way. You and your students will get so much out of this practice in the classroom.
This session will be led by Deborah Gascon, an English teacher at Dutch Fork High School in Irmo, South Carolina and Missy Springsteen-Haupt, Assistant Teaching Professor at Iowa State University.
Afterwards, a recording of the session and any related resources will be available exclusively for Folger Teacher Members.
