Explore the connections between verse and musical rhythm in this participatory, all-ages workshop. As You Like It actor and musician John Sygar will lead participants in learning the basic structure of iambic beats in Shakespeare’s text. Using the famous “Seven Ages of Man” speech from As You Like It, participants can engage in a musical conversation and co-create a unique and improvised composition.
All the world’s a stage,
And all the men and women merely players.
They have their exits and their entrances,
And one man in his time plays many parts,
His acts being seven ages.
Read the rest of the speech (Act 2, Scene 7) in the online Folger Shakespeare edition of As You Like It.
