When students are cutting and performing a scene, whether that of Shakespeare or another author, they are closely examining the language the author uses to establish the setting and the characters’ relationships with each other all on their own. With this student-centered strategy, students are the ones cutting the text and determining what’s important and why (and providing the textual evidence to support their decisions!). Get ready to step back and let the deep thinking and decision-making of your students shine through!
