The pen is mightier than the sword, and also mightier than a text or email. In this workshop, participants will learn the foundations of fountain-pen writing in a workshop led by Beth Knarr, store manager at Penny Post, a specialty stationery store in Alexandria.

Using the popular Pilot Kakuno fountain pen, writers can practice this timeless tradition while learning about the history of the fountain pen. By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to tell their nibs from their barrels and have the basic skills to impress in their next thank you note or love letter.

The cost of the workshop includes a fountain pen, writing paper, and a 10% discount in the Folger Shop for same day purchases.

Arrive early for a pop-up collection display

Greg Prickman, Eric Weinmann Librarian and Director of Collections and Exhibitions, will share about calligraphy manuals, wax seal fobs, handwritten plays and correspondence, along with pens and inkwells.
