Sara Pennell
Sara Pennell is Associate Professor of early modern British history at the University of Greenwich, and has spent much of the last twenty years thinking and writing about early modern food, kitchens and food texts. More recently, she has been involved in a book project on the circulation of second-hand goods in England, 1650-1850, which will be out in 2025; and (the focus of her fellowship at the Folger), the life and work of Hannah Wolley (c.1622-c.1674), writer, schoolteacher and needlewoman. Some of the fruits of this latter research have been published in Book History in Spring 2024, and at the Folger she’ll be continuing to develop a book-length study of Wolley’s working worlds.
