Folger First Folio 77

Detail of printed page showing horizontal printer's ornament above

This First Folio was owned by the renowned Shakespeare scholar Clement Mansfield lngleby in the 1860s, then passed to his son Holcombe, a solicitor, politician, and Shakespeare enthusiast. The Folgers paid $13,200 for this First Folio at the Sotheby’s sale of C. M. Ingleby’s books in July 1928.

Like many First Folios, this copy is missing some leaves. The first seven leaves of the introduction (including the title page), two leaves from Henry Vlll, and 10 leaves from Othello and Cymbeline have been replaced with facsimile leaves and original leaves from other First Folios. Many other leaves are damaged.
