In addition to Festival participation, the FTAS program includes:

  • Fifteen classroom visits led by Folger teaching artists. These sessions get students on their feet and connecting with Shakespeare’s language head on, so that they feel like they own the plays and everything in them.
  • Attendance at a student matinee of a Folger production.
  • Two professional development opportunities for participating teachers and teaching artists.

The program—including teaching artist fees, transportation to and from the festival and matinee and related instructional materials—is provided to selected schools at no cost.

Applications for the 2017–2018 school year will be available after April 30, 2017.

Folger Teaching Artists in the Schools program is part of Shakespeare in American Communities, a national program of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest.
