James J. Johnson is an actor and writer based in the Washington, D.C. area. As an actor, he last appeared onstage in the co-production The Royale (1st Stage/Olney Theater Center). He has performed on many local stages including Arena Stage, Woolly Mammoth Theatre, and Ford’s Theatre. Since the pandemic, he has been focusing on writing. His first screenplay, A Thousand Cuts, which he co-wrote, is scheduled to film in Connecticut, February 2021, directed by Sundance Institute Feature Film Fellow, Aristotle Torres. He also recently received a Solo Works Commission from 1st Stage in Tyson’s Corner, Virginia. He is grateful to Folger for annually uplifting the voice of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
