Folger Friday: Daniel De Simone

Friday, June 19, 2015, 6:30 pm
Folger Theatre
Join Folger Librarian Daniel De Simone as he shares an insider's perspective on the current Folger exhibition Ships, Clocks, and Stars: The Quest for Longitude.
Mr. De Simone will discuss the challenges of determining longitude at sea and the early instruments that were proposed as a solution. The Longitude Act of 1714 inspired early entrepreneurs and inventors, including clockmaker John Harrison, to put forward a wide-ranging series of inventions, from charts to clocks to chairs. The Ships, Clocks and Stars exhibition includes original Harrison timepieces as well as modern reproductions. Mr. De Simone will also discuss the challenges of the current exhibition and explore how it relates to materials in the Folger collection.

Tickets are free but reservation is encouraged. To request a reservation for this free event, please complete our online event registration form.
